Tsho Rolpa Lake Trekking offers an unparalleled adventure amidst the grandeur of Nepal’s natural wonders. Situated at a lofty altitude of 4,580 meters, Tso Rolpa Lake stands as one of the largest glacial lakes in Nepal. Nestled between the Langtang and Everest ranges, this region boasts stunning views of both Mt. Langtang and Mt. Everest, making it a highlight of the trek. Additionally, trekkers are treated to the delightful sight of magnificent Mt. Gaurishankar, further enhancing the allure of this expedition.
The trekking route winds its way along the border with Tibet, offering glimpses into the rich tapestry of Tibetan culture. While predominantly inhabited by Buddhist communities, including Sherpas, the trek also provides opportunities to interact with Brahmin, Chhetri, and Tamang villages along the way. This cultural diversity adds depth and richness to the trekking experience, allowing travelers to immerse themselves in the traditions and lifestyles of the local inhabitants.
Setting out on a 15-day journey, adventurers embark from Dolakha, where breathtaking landscapes and winding roads welcome them. The route then leads to Gongur Khola, setting the stage for the adventure ahead. Ascending towards Chyochyot, the gateway to Simi Gaon, trekkers find themselves enveloped in the serene beauty of alpine forests and rocky terrain. Despite the enchanting landscapes, travelers must remain vigilant for leeches, which are prevalent along the track.
The trek culminates at Dongang, situated at an altitude of 2,800 meters, where the azure waters of Tsho Rolpa Lake glisten amidst panoramic snowy mountains. Here, amidst the splendor of Rolling Peak, trekkers can trace the footsteps of history, as the famous British mountaineer Eric Shipton captured the first photographs of Yeti’s footprints in 1951. While encountering a Yeti may be improbable, the trek offers an array of natural wonders, including terraced fields, fast-flowing rivers, forests, and two majestic glaciers, in addition to the magnificent Tsho Rolpa Lake.
Enriching the cultural experience, trekkers also have the opportunity to visit the renowned Bigu Gompa, home to over 300 nuns. This spiritual haven hosts two festivals annually, akin to the celebrated Mani Rimdu in Tengboche Gompa of the Khumbu region. Against the backdrop of Sherpa villages, including Beding and Na, travelers witness awe-inspiring views of Mt. Gaurishankar and Melungtse, alongside other massifs, infusing an already enchanting journey with a touch of mystique.
