Mt. Baruntse is the perfect expedition above 7,000 meters for adventure-seeking climbers who want to experience climbing in the remote region of Nepal. The summit provides a magnificently rewarding climb and is situated among some of the world’s tallest peaks. At an elevation of 7,134 m, the peak is situated south of the semi-circle of beautiful mountains, including Everest, Makalu, Lhotse, and Nuptse. The Baruntse Peak expedition approaches the base camp through the clear and pristine wild environment of the Hinku Valley and the famous Merala of the remote Makalu Barun valleys of Nepal. Although the expedition comes with certain challenges, this peak is known to be relatively easier to climb 7,000 meters above and also has one of the highest success rates for scaling and returning safely. Beginning from the base camp to the western col with its giant glacial plateau, the whole experience will be very inspiring and challenging.
Although the peak is relatively shorter than its neighboring peaks, since it lies in the very heart of the mighty Himalayan peaks, you will have a stunning view of the southern face of Lhotse and the western face of Makalu. Undertaking the Baruntse expedition includes the use of various skills required for climbing any 8,000m above peaks in the Himalayas. The steep sections of ice at a 50-degree angle and a very large ice cliff at an estimated 7,000m make Baruntse a challenging ascent. The south-eastern ridge of Baruntse demands respect, attention to detail, and great expertise to make it a successful ascent.
The itinerary for the Baruntse expedition has been made carefully by our experienced team of mountaineers and guides. The itinerary has been made in such a way that ample amounts of time for proper acclimatization, sufficient stamina, and the building of necessary skills for climbing have been allocated. There will also be a specially customized climbing and trekking training course at the base camp where all the members of the expedition group can practice and sharpen their skills. The Baruntse base camp will be set at an altitude of 5,300 m, where our cooks from the expedition group will prepare all meals to take further up. Higher camps will be set at elevations of 6,400m and 6,800m by our team of experienced climbing guides, and they will also fix ropes to make the summit push secure and safe.
