Poon Hill + Annapurna Base Camp trek, is also known as the Annapurna Sanctuary Trek. This trek offers a complete package of mountain adventure for travelers wanting to conquer the Annapurna Region. The trek goes through the Ghorepani Poon Hill route and then reaches Annapurna Base Camp (ABC) Trek, passing through Machhapuchhre Base Camp (MBC) surrounded by local villages with local culture.

Ghorepani Poon Hill Trek: A Himalayan Marvel

Poon Hill, at the heart of this adventure, is a globally renowned viewpoint that unveils its magic during both sunrise and sunset. Trekkers witnessed the sun’s radiant rays painting the silver peaks in hues of fiery orange, etching a spectacle into memory. From Poon Hill, trekkers can marvel at Kali Gandaki Gorge, recognized as the deepest gorge worldwide, adding yet another layer of natural wonder to an already captivating trekking experience.
The journey commences in the picturesque lake city of Pokhara, creating a seamless transition into the loop route around Ghorepani and Ghandruk. Traversing charming rural villages like Tikhedhunga and Nanga Thanti, trekkers gradually ascend to Ghorepani, nestled at an elevation of 2,874 meters.
Continuing the trek to the pinnacle of Poon Hill at 3,210 meters, the transition from one breathtaking panorama to another marks a diverse and ever-changing landscape.
Designed with a moderate altitude and difficulty level, the trek caters to trekkers in good health, ensuring accessibility to a diverse range of enthusiasts.So its relatively shorter duration positions it as an ideal choice for those constrained by time, with the flexibility to customize or extend the trek based on individual preferences.
Day 01 : – Arrival in Kathmandu, transfer to the hotel, and welcome drinks.
Day 02 : – Trekking preparing, and shopping in Kathmandu.
Day 03 : – Kathmandu – Flight to Pokhara (30m) , drive to Hille (2/3h) and trek to Ulleri (2h) 2055m.
Day 04 : – Ulleri – Ghorepani (5/6h) 2860m.
Day 05 : – Ghorepani – Tadapani (5/6h) 2630m. Via Ghorepani Poon Hill view point 3200m.
Day 06 : – Tadapani – Chomrong (5/6h) 2170m.
Day 07 : – Chomrong – Dovan (5/6h) 2630m.
Day 08 : – Dovan – MBC (5/6h) 3800m.
Day 09 : – MBC – Bambo Via Annapurna Base Camp view point (5/6) 4130m.
Day 10 : – Bambo – Jhinu Dada (4/5h) and drive to Pokhara(2/3h) 820m.
Day 11: – Pokhara – Flight to Kathmandu(20m)
Day 12: – Departure from Kathmandu to your destination.
Day 01 : – Arrival in Kathmandu, transfer to the hotel, and welcome drinks.
After landing at the Tribhuwan International Airport, we will be greeted by a representative Ice Cap Adventure then you will be transfer to hotel. We then check-in at the hotel, freshen up and take a rest. After resting for a while, there will be a pre-trip discussion for the last minute preparation before the trek. In the evening a welcome dinner will be hosted by Ice Cap Adventure. Overnight in Kathmandu.
Day 02 : – Kathmandu sightseeing and Preparation for trekking.
After breakfast, our guide will take you to different attractions of Kathmandu Valley such as Bauddhanath and Pashupatinath temple. The Boudhanath is one of the largest stupa in the world. Pashupatinath temple is one of the most important places of pilgrimage for all Hindus. After finishing the sightseeing briefing about trekking and tours, as well as an introduction with your trekking guide. While you are finished briefing, continue to check your trekking equipment with a guide.
Day 03 : – Kathmandu – Flight to Pokhara (30m) , drive to Hille (2/3h) and trek to Ulleri (2h) 2055m.
After breakfast in the morning, take a flight for Pokhara 30 min and drive to Hile. The trek begins from Hile and takes (2 hour) to reach Ulleri. The village is located in the hilly region of Nepal, offers spectacular views of Mountains, valleys and local traditional style villages with local food.
Day 04 : – Ulleri – Ghorepani (4/5h) 2860m.
You will embark on a roughly 5-hour trek from Ulleri to Ghorepani after the breakfast. The trail is mostly uphill, passing through quaint villages and terraced fields adorned with Banthanti and Nange Thanti. The trek distance is around 10 kilometers and it takes around 4 to 5 hours to reach Ghorepani.
Day 05 : – Ghorepani – Tadapani (5/6h) 2630m. Via Ghorepani Poon Hill view point 3200m.
In the morning having the breakfast, you will start an hour hiking to Poon Hill view point at an elevation of 3,210m a brilliant mountain range spectacle; this vantage point provides an unobstructed view of the sunrise over the high Himalayas. There you spend about 1 hour for photo sessions, videographing the team and the entire Mt.Dhaulagiri 1, 2, 3 and Mt. Annapurna 1,2,3,4, Mt. Gangapurna, Mt. Manasulu, Mt. Machhapuchhare (Fishtail), Mt. Tukuche, Mt.Lamjung Himal etc. many moremountains will be seen from the top of Poon Hill view point. After enjoying the scenery then returning to Ghorepani to have a hot breakfast at a hotel. Then continue to make a hike along ridges, and through pine trees and rhododendron forests to Deurali (2,960m). After that we descend to the Banthanti, then turn off to Tadapani.
Day 06 : – Tadapani – Chomrong (5/6h) 2170m.
As usual, The hiking guide will announce for timing of breakfast and lunch, dinner and duration day by day. So today, as well as previous days, breakfast in the morning and will start to hike next day destinations at Chhomrong after breakfast. The day starts with a steep downhill through rhododendron forests. Leaving
Tadapani, The group will descend through the forests and then the trail eases as we reach Gurjung village, which is the village of Gurung people, with an easy walk to Chhomrong at an elevation of 2,140m. If you have still enough time then will walk bit further trek to Sinuwa, It takes 1.5 hours because it will be better and easy for next high hiking day, but it’s depend on your arrival time at Chhumrong and guide will decides with the group leader.
Day 07 : – Chomrong – Dovan (5/6h) 2630m.
As usual, after breakfast the group will continue ascending Dovan. If you stay in Chumron beginning of the day the trail drops down to the Chhomrong Khola (River) cross the beautiful and long suspension bridge and continue climbing to Sinuwa dada 23,80m. There is a clearing in the forest a little further on, from which, the route travels very steeply down a rock bank then levels out, running through thickets of bamboo at the bottom of the gorge, keeping always on the west side of the river. We walk through bamboo, then rhododendron forests to the Dovan Hotel.
Day 08 : – Dovan – MBC (5/6h) 3800m.
As usual, after breakfast, our group continues to next Himalaya destinations at MBC (Machhapuchhare Base Camp). On the way of MBC, the trail climbs on past the Hinko Cave nearly by Deurali and along the river valley and then arrive MBC . It’s a kind of acclimatization for high altitude and Next day Annapurna Base Camp. The trek also offers stunning views of the Machhapuchhre, also known as the Fishtail mountain, which is one of the most beautiful peaks in the world. It is also an opportunity to experience the warm hospitality of the local people, who are known for their friendliness and generosity.
Day 09 : – MBC – Bambo Via Annapurna Base Camp view point (5/6) 4130m.
Early in the morning, you can see the views of the sunrise over the Annapurna mountain range. The views of mountains, waterfall, and beautiful flowers are simply remarkable. Today’s total distance is 2.9Km and takes 2 hours to reach Annapurna Base Camp from Machhapuchhre Base Camp. In the noontime, you can see awesome views of glaciers. We trek to Bamboo at 2,300m from Annapurna Base Camp. The trail drops 1830m to the bank of Modi Khola to Bamboo. Today’s total distance is 13.5km.
Day 10 : – Bambo – Jhinu Dada (4/5h) and drive to Pokhara(2/3h) 820m.
Today is the hot springs day. Trekking from bamboo to Jhinu Danda (1,740m) approximately takes 5 hours. We step down from Chhomrung to Jhinu and finally reach hot springs. We will walk around the edge of the hot springs. The total distance is 11.7m and the distance up and down to the hot springs is 1.4 km. It’s the final day of trekking. We will walk to our jeep pick-up point Jhinu Dada for 3 hours. This is the shortest and most relaxing walk of the entire trip. We will stay overnight in Pokhara before heading to Kathmandu. The walking distance is 4.3km.
Day 11: – Pokhara – Flight to Kathmandu(30m)
After breakfast, we will return with the flight to reach Kathmandu taking around 30 m. On the way, you can enjoy the beautiful sceneries. It is a special vacation to spend a quality time with the freshness of natural green environment. On arrival in Kathmandu, you will transfer to the hotel. And then can spend the time leisurely, possibly do some shopping and have dinner together with Trekking Guide.
Day 12: – Departure from Kathmandu to your destination.
Your trekking in Nepal comes to an end today. A representative from Ice Cap Adventures will drop you off at the airport approximately 3 hours before your scheduled flight. Our representative shall assist you with your departure. On your way home you will have plenty of time to plan your next adventure in the wonderful country of Nepal. When you make such an adventure travel plan to visit Nepal, please bring your one suitcase and trekking day pack inside or as hand luggage used in Kathmandu. You just need casual clothes, such as jeans and a light jacket, if the evening gets cold.
