The remote and far-flung valley of Rolwaling region is located between the majestic Everest and Langtang mountain range. The rolwaling valley extends from east to west of the Gauri Shankar Massif (7,134m).
The area is trekked very less in comparison to other trekking regions of Nepal, but once you make it here, you will be overwhelmed by the beauty of tall, lofty peaks like Mt. Gauri Shankar, Pachharmo Peak,Yalung Ri, Dorje Lakpa, Chobabhamre, and the Rolwaling Himal. Due to the valley’s unique location we can also have beautiful view of the peaks of the Everest region and Langtang region. We will get the rare opportunity to explore many hidden Himalayan valleys, which houses some of the most interesting civilizations and an exotic range of flora and faunas. We will be able to have sighting of Himalayan animals like musk deer, Himalayan thar, gaur, Himalayan black bear, wild dog and more than 250 kinds of birds.
To trek the region, we will first have to travel to Dolakha district’s headquarter Chautara. The region lies in very close proximity to the Tibetan, thus providing trekkers with yet another opportunity to experience and witness the ancient Tibetan culture, very old salt trading routes and yak caravans. The Rolwaling region is inhabited by different ethnicities like Brahmin, Chettris, Tamangs, and Sherpa thus it will also be a cultural trek to trek the region as we will be able to witness the rich culture and traditions of multiple ethnic groups. The Rolwaling region is known as one of the seven hidden valleys in the Himalayans and Rolwaling translates to “a furrow left by the plough” in the local language. A trek to the Rolwaling regions opens the doors to many adventurous opportunities like a short climb to peaks like Yalung Pass (5,310m), Ramding Go (5,930m), and exciting passes like Tashi Lapcha (5,755m) and Na Gaon. The famous Hindu pilgrimage site of Kalinchowk Bhagwati also lies in the region. Thousands of devotees visit the region every year for a beautiful religious and natural experience.
The region that is largely unexplored and unexploited is the home to mysterious tales of Yeti Sightings. The first photos of the abominable snowman was first take in the slopes of the Rowaling peak itself by British mountaineer Eric Shipton in 1951. Trekkers will also be able to immerse in the beauty of pristine glacier, Tsho Rolpa, the biggest glacier lake in the country. From here, it is also possible to trek to the Khumbu region or Langtang region from here to further extend the experience in the Himalayan country, Nepal.
The trek package options available in the region are Nambur Cheese Trekking, Tsho Rolpa Lake Trekking, and Rolwaling-Kalinchowk trekking. All these three treks are 20 days long and are of moderate difficulty level. The trekkers must have previous trekking experience to trek the region because of its remote nature. We can also organize a more adventurous trek to Tashi Lapcha Pass as per the request from our clients.
