Explore the diverse facets of Kathmandu attractions (temples, traditions, cuisine, culture, etc.)
One of the most sacred Hindu temples of Nepal – Pashupatinath Temple is located on both banks of Bagmati River on the eastern outskirts of Kathmandu. Pashupatinath is important in Hinduism because it is a site of spiritual power where Lord Shiva is worshipped in his aspect as the god of destruction and recreation. The temple is also a UNESCO World Heritage Site, recognized for its architectural beauty and its role in the Hindu cycle of creation and destruction.
Patan Durbar square is the famous visiting place. The square is full of ancient places, temples, and shrines noted for their exquisite carvings. The former royal palace complex is the center of Patan’s religious and social life and houses a museum containing an array of bronze statues and religious objects
This stupa is the oldest of its kind in Nepal and has numerous shrines and monasteries on its premises. Swayambhu literally means “self-existent one”. Believed to date back to 460 A.D., it was built by King Manadeva and by the 13th century, it had become an important center of Buddhism.
Boudhanath also called Boudha is a stupa in Kathmandu, Nepal. Boudha stupa is semicircle shaped and contains the relics and remains of Buddha. The stupa’s massive mandala makes it is one of the largest spherical stupa in the world.
Namo Buddha is a beautiful place. There is no need to exaggerate this. The place is very quiet and pure. Its environment is very clean, with no pollution, and the natural air is so fresh, cool and healthy. It is also the right place for meditation and practice. In the morning when you wake up, you can see a beautiful sunrise. In the evening you can see a wonderful sunset. You can enjoy snow-covered Himalayan ranges which look so amazing and pure.
From the Buddhist point of view, Namo Buddha is one of the most important religious sites in Nepal. There are three major Buddhist pilgrimage sites: Boudha Stupa, Swayambhunath Stupa and Namo Buddha.
Pharping has several amazing day hikes, a bazillion Buddhist monasteries, giant statues of ancient gurus, Hindu temples, stupas by the dozen, and is home to the first hydro power plant in Nepal and the second in all of Asia! Today, Pharping is most famous for its plethora of Buddhist monasteries.
Siddhartha Gautama, the Lord Buddha, was born in 623 B.C. in the famous gardens of Lumbini, which soon became a place of pilgrimage. Among the pilgrims was the Indian emperor Ashoka, who erected one of his commemorative inscribed Ashoka pillars there. The inscription on the pillar is the oldest in Nepal. Lumbini is the Buddha’s birthplace, located at Rupandehi, Nepal, is one of the world’s most important spiritual sites and attracts Buddhist pilgrims from around the world.
The Pokhara is best known for the stunning view of the Annapurna range. It is perhaps one of the few places on earth from where mountains above 6,000 m can be seen unobstructed from an altitude of 800 m within the distance of 28 km. Pokhara is renowned for its natural beauty, which includes lakes, mountains, and waterfalls, whereas Kathmandu is renowned for its historical and cultural landmarks, including temples and palaces. Pokhara is popular for its beautiful landscapes in and around. A valley surrounded by hills and famous landmarks like Begnas Lake and Phewa Lake where the elevation suddenly changes taking you to a hilltop like Sarangkot; ideal spot to observe the thirst healing sunrise falling on giant Himalayan Ranges.
