The Jomsom Muktinath Trek is one of the most popular trekking routes in Nepal. It lies in the Mustang district of western Nepal. The beautiful Himalayan ranges of Annapurna and Dhaulagiri, located to the north, make the district renowned. Dzong-Sampa, also known as Jomsom, is situated at an altitude of 2,700m. Muktinath (3,710m) is one of the most important shrines in Nepal for Buddhists and Hindus alike. The trek will take you to the beautiful lake city of Pokhara, through the Kali Gandaki River, and to the holy site of Muktinath. It falls under the Annapurna Circuit Trek in the beautiful north-western region of Nepal.
The trek starts after we board a plane from Pokhara to Jomsom. From Jomsom, the headquarters of the Mustang region, our trek will commence. We will trek through beautiful Thakalai villages, Marpha and Kagbeni being the notable ones. We will also visit apple-growing gardens, as the apples of the region are very famous. We will trek uphill to reach Kagbeni alongside the banks of the serene Kali Gandaki River. It is an ancient fortress settlement on the border of Upper Mustang. On the banks of Kali Gandaki, we might find sacred rocks known as Saligram, which are of religious importance to Hindus. The trial weaves through the lower part of the Mustang region and encompasses iconic settlements like Kagbeni and Marpha. The trial’s highest point is the Muktinath temple, which lies at an elevation of 3,800m. It is a very famous holy site for both Buddhists and Hindus.
The best times for Jomsom Muktinath trekking are the spring and autumn seasons. In the months of March–May and September–November, the Jomsom Muktinath Trek is at its peak.

Day 01: – Arrival in Kathmandu, transfer to the hotel, and welcome drinks.
After landing at the Tribhuwan International Airport, You will be greeted by a representative Ice Cap Adventure then you will be transfer to hotel. Then you check-in at the hotel, freshen up and take a rest. After resting for a while, there will be a pre-trip discussion for the last minute preparation before the trek. In the evening a welcome dinner will be hosted by Ice Cap Adventure. Overnight in Kathmandu.
Day 02: – Kathmandu sightseeing and Preparation for trekking
After breakfast, our guide will take you to different attraction of Kathmandu Valley such as Baudhanath and Pashupatinath temple. The Boudhanath is one of the largest stupa in the world. Pashupatinath temple is one of the most important places of pilgrimage for all Hindus. After finishing the sightseeing briefing about trekking and tours, as well as an introduction with your trekking guide. While you are finished briefing, continue to check your trekking equipment with a guide.
Day 03: – Kathmandu – Drive to Pokhara (6/7h) 820m.
The Kathmandu to Pokhara road trip takes you through a serene journey, crossing highways and sites that offer an immersive experience of Nepal’s culture and natural beauty. During the journey, you’ll be mesmerized by the magni cent landscapes, including lush green hills, picturesque villages, and cascading waterfalls. It takes (6/7h) to reach Pokhara from Kathmandu.
Day 04: – Pokhara – Flight to Jomsom and Trek to Kagbeni (3/4h)
After breakfast in the morning, take a flight for Jomsom 30 min from Pokhara . The trek begins from Jomsom to Kagbeni. Jomsom to Kagbeni distance is 10.7 kilometers / 6.6 mile. It takes 3 to 4 hours, depends on your walking speed. Altitude of Kagbeni village is 2810 meters above sea level.The village is located in the hilly region of Nepal, offers spectacular views of Mountains, valleys and local traditional style villages with local food.
Day 05: – Kagbeni – Muktinath (3/4h)
To reach Muktinath it takes (3/4h) from Kagbeni . Kagbeni to Muktinath trail is not a part of upper mustang trek Nepal. It is a side trip to famous Muktinarth temple in Ranipauwa village. It is possible to go explore and come back same day from Kagbeni. During this hiking venture you come across soothing natural beauty, vivid cultural luxury, stunning Himalayan views, beautiful landscapes and pleasing climatic ambiance.
Day 06: – Muktinath – Jomsom (5/6h)
From Muktinath to Jomsom it takes (5/6h) to reach our destination. The trek offers a unique blend of landscapes ranging from arid deserts, high-altitude valleys, and snow-capped peaks. Jomsom is a bustling town with loads of guesthouses, restaurants and shops. The main attraction of this trip is the Muktinath temple at an altitude of 3800 m in Mustang.
Day 07: – Jomsom – Flight to Pokhara(30m) and Visit Pokhara.
Jomsom to Pokhara flight is a beautiful flight journey in the Himalayas that lasts for about 30 minutes. Lifting off from the green surrounding of Jomsom, the flight lands at the Pokhara airport surrounded by the barren hills backed by snow-blanketed peaks. Mostly opted by pilgrims as Jomsom is the gateway for the sacred Muktinath temple.
Day 08: – Pokhara – Drive to Chitwan National park (4/5h)
The journey from Chitwan to Pokhara indeed offers a captivating experience, allowing travelers to witness the rich tapestry of Nepal’s landscapes. Covering approximately 155 kilometers, the route takes you through a mesmerizing transformation from the lush plains of Chitwan to the captivating beauty of Pokhara.
Day 09: – Excursion and jungle safari Day
Today we will visit Chitwan National park which is a near perfect wildlife retreat. The national park is also listed under UNESCO World Natural Heritage and a natural habitat to many endangered species of flora and fauna. Get on the back of an elephant, travel through the dense forest and also visit the elephant stables. Later have a jungle safari on a jeep while watching various species of birds, one horn rhinoceros, and Royal Bengal Tiger. Next, you can have a canoe ride down the Rapti river and watch Gharial crocodiles, freshwater dolphins and many more.
Day 10: – Chitwan – Drive to Kathmandu (4/5h)
On a good day, the overland journey between Kathmandu and the Chitwan National Park is only about five hours. It’s a scenic drive, following the Trishuli Valley much of the way, with its steep forest-covered hills and farming villages, and then turns south at Mugling and towards the plains. However, traffic jams of two hours or more are extremely common, first at Kalanki when leaving the Kathmandu Valley, and then around Mugling, where roadworks have been ongoing for years.
Day 11: – Departure from Kathmandu to your destination.
Your sightseeing and wildlife tour in Nepal comes to an end today. A representative from Ice Cap Adventures will drop you off at the airport approximately 3 hours before your scheduled flight. Our representative shall assist you with your departure. On your way home you will have plenty of time to plan your next adventure in the wonderful country of Nepal. When you make such an adventure travel plan to visit Nepal, please bring your one suitcase and trekking day pack inside or as hand luggage used in Kathmandu. You just need casual clothes, such as jeans and a light jacket, if the evening gets cold.
